Managing Your Buddy List

Your buddy list shows you when your buddies are signed on and allows you to communicate with them.  By default, your buddy list looks like this:

The buddy list above, consists of 3 "groups" of buddies. A group is a category to organize the buddies on your buddy list.  The "Online" tab shown on the left displays the screen names of your buddies that are signed on.  The "List Setup" tab shown on the right is where you can edit your buddy list by adding/deleting buddies and groups.

To add a new screen name to your buddy list, click on the "List Setup" tab shown above.  Click on the group (folder) that you want to add your buddy to and then click on the "Add a Buddy" icon.

Type your buddies screen name in the box that appears.  When you go back to the "Online" tab, your buddies screen name will be displayed under the category you added them to when they are online.  If they are offline, they will be listed under the "Offline" category.

If you want to create a new group of buddies to help you categorize your buddy list, click the "List Setup" tab and then click the "Add a Group" icon.

Type the name of the new category you want to add in the box that appears.  You can now drag and drop buddies from another category into this one, or you can add a new buddy as described above.

To delete a buddy or a group from your list, select the item you want to delete and press the "Delete" button on your keyboard or click the "Delete Item" icon.  Be careful, because if you delete a group, it will delete all your buddies in that group as well.

If you make a typo, or want to edit the screen name of a buddy or a group name, click on the item you want to edit, and then single click on it once again.  This will highlight the item and allow you to edit the text.  For more information on using the AIM client, check out the rest of our AIM Tutorials.
